I am not a CJ expert ... in fact far from it .... but the smell of fuel smell in the cockpit, along with your other problems makes me less focused on a mag coil problem, which I was actually thinking about, (your read my mind Richard) and it still could be.  But to have the engine totally quit for more than a second or two makes me consider fuel.  But I would not be thinking carb diaphragms right off the git-go, instead I would be considering fuel vents.  Before ripping the carb apart, I would take a very hard look , including some testing, of the fuel vent system, which again.... I know nothing about on a CJ.



Just guessing.

Hi all-



I would agree with Mark on this; if you have the long range tanks with the modified vent system fuel can migrate into the vent lines and cause flow issues;  especially after acro.  Try blowing air (with fuel caps off of course) into the belly ram air “in” tube on port side and ensure you can feel air at each bladder/tank.  And you can control feed from each tank, if you have that ability.  Need two people.  Fuel smell in cockpit means some fuel may be in your fuel vent loop next to your left elbow.  It can still get in there even with a check valve...don’t ask me how.  Not saying it couldn’t be a carb issue but I would start here.

Thanks. It has standard tanks. In fact, it’s pretty much a standard aircraft apart from a B&C alternator.
