whats the current fix for exhaust leaks at the joints where the pipes come together.

Get a stainless steel exhaust clamp kit from M14P. Wrap the joint with 2 mm stainless steel cut with an tin snip to span the gap. Cut it long enough to wrap around the joint like you would wrap tape around a pipe. Then install the stainless clamps over the taped joint with your third hand.

Any follow up on how this wrap of fiberglass heat shield worked? I am thinking of trying this.

We still keep this fiberglass seal, no better idea so far. But when you have to take off the exhaust you need a fresh length of fiber of course because a well used seal ages and disintegrates when undoing. But cheap enough and reasonably tight. Take care to fit one layer of stainless under the fiber for protecting it from fire.
