I have recently installed a fuel flow tracker and once you get the calibration done I can usually guess the amount of fuel I will need to within a liter or two.
Since you were removing some swarf from behind the just prior to it going blank, I would think that you have dislodged a wire input. The only way to sort it out is to pull the unit and verify connections.
Good luck.

Does anyone use a fuel flow meter? I have an ST Aviation one in my aircraft but the screen recently stopped showing characters (I had been removing some swarf from behind the panel) The screen glows when the master is switched on but no figures.
These are not expensive items and I am thinking it might be easier just to fit something else rather than try and locate the fault. What are other people using, if anything.
I found another person who had an identical problem and he bought and connected a new screen but it still did the same thing, he then removed the control box and took it to an electronics firm who solved the problem for around £75.
I have a capacitance fuel gauge on the panel so I do have a reliable source of fuel content, it's just that as it is there I would prefer to have it working.
Thanks

Thanks Mike, I have considered that but the screen lights up so power must be getting to it.

Hi, i'd recommend the Stratomaster FF-1 from MGL. I've had a single Floscan 201 flow transducer for some time, with a 'fiddled' K factor - to account for the return flow. That is the cheaper approach and it works quite well, though accuracy is based on several re-adjustments of the K factor over a number of flights between full tanks /an 'average consumption/hr per flight', of course. To improve this i have just fitted a second Floscan in the return line and using the Differential flow function within the FF-1 unit - so I'm hoping it should be close to 100% accurate. LAA SM12209 refers. The FF-1 also has a GPS-read function so it can display fuel consumption based on ground speed - which is useful if you find you find yourself battling unexpected headwinds . . .
