Been there, done that, wrote about it back then (1998). I changed pitch and fudged prop governor to yield 2600 rpm, just to gain an edge in a grudge race. Worked great, top end went from 157 kias to 170 kias and I won the race That's when I realized I could get serious speed out of the air frame with some areo cleanups and M-14P power.
Sounds simple but I also re-jetted the carb and increased manual mixture for top end cooling. The race looser, a Seneca driver, noted black smoke coming from my stacks as I faded to a dot in his windscreen.
Over the years, a few other guys have modified their Huosai's for airshow work. I believe Greg Medford in AZ had an extensive hop-up on his engine.
Knowing my engine was well worn, I reverted back to normalĀ settings and within a few years replaced with an M-14P. Never looked back.
I do have a new HS-6 governor I don't need and carb I went thorough with new gaskets and modified the split plenum into a single, polished camber.
