This may be covered before , but having just got a set of new exhaust clamps from China and note there is a small bracket / hole on a clamp mid lhs. Any clues what it’s supposed to hold / spring / stay ? Anyone.

It was used to hold the upper cowl open for servicing.

Thx Walt - Doug also advised there is a stay to hold the upper cowl clear . I can’t see it in the manuals or on any changs I’ve had a look at.

As Walt said, it is for supporting the cowling. There should also be another bracket with a hole on the left side of upper cowling. I have the folding arm that goes with it but to be honest I thought their design was not very functional so I built a support rod with a pin at either end to insert in the two holes and supported the cowling in this manner. Even then, I found that design to be in the way while working on the engine. I then designed a support rod out of PVC that is designed to fit on the center forward lip of the upper cowling and attached to the center of the upper support arm of the gill shutter ring. This works much better. I've attached a photo .
