I landed on a rough field about a month ago and broke the bungee on the nose wheel. The bungee broke straight across and looked like it was cut but the welds and joints were smooth. The field had several sharp bumps and fire ant hills. After a number of sharp bumps I think I hit a fire ant hill while taxiing back to the hangar and the nose wheel collapsed. The bungee was 4 years old. I have since replaced the bungee and have returned to the field to visit with no ill effects. I am thinking about replacing the bungee about every 3 years. Has any one had this happen to them?

Yes it has happened to me. I just replace it every other Annual. I should mention I fly a lot, 120 + hours per year.

Bobby....
You may have to replace the bungee on a yearly basis now for awhile. While at the Zenith Fall Open-house I spoke with Sebastian concerning their new Nose Strut set-up with rubber pads. Sebastian told me because of the big "to-do" over Talcum Powder being used by women and the results have been major suits concerning it's use that the manufacture of their bungees have quit using talcum powder in the bungees. Talcum powder was used to allow the rubber windings in the bungees to smoothly stretch and contract next to one another. He said now due to the Talcum conflict that they are no longer using that method. Until they come up with an alternate the bungees are only lasting about a year at the most before breaking.
