I want to calculate the current-carrying capability of a piece of brass bussbar.
Once upon a time I had a chart that showed something like circular mil & resistance per foot for brass.
I've Googled for about 20 min but not able to find what I want. (everything I'm finding is about copper & aluminum).
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Jeff

Brass has 28% the capacity of copper but since the runs it will go through are so short and the amperage would be fairly low (<100 amps I am guessing) it is usually not a problem. The question is why not copper?

Excellent question. Consider:

What size(s) are your proposed bus
bar(s)? I may have some pieces
in my 'good scrap' that would suffice.

Thanks Rod & Bob for your responses.
The short answer to the question of "why not use copper?" is that I've go a whole bunch of brass in my scrap-metal pile.
I did the math using the values for copper then adjusted for brass and the voltage drop at rated current is 37 mV, which I think I can live with
Thanks for the input,
-Jeff
