Fellow Listers:

I am posting this note for a friend who has just completed a most beautiful
RV-10. I have flown this aircraft about 20 hours and is REALLY nice.

Here is the link for more information:

http://www.mnwing.org/EldonRV10/index.html

Thanks

Just shows different tastes. Since this plane was apparently built as
a spec plane it amazed me that the first picture looked somewhat gaudy.

Then you look at the last one and it is a more reasonable beige.

Bad in that there is no blue. Good in that there is no purple.

The first photo is clearly shot as the sun is setting (or possibly
rising), which offers some dramatic lighting. As an amateur
photographer, I liked the effect.

Just out of curiousity, how realistic is that asking price? We're getting up into new SR20 range there.

I hope he gets what he's asking ...for obvious reasons, but I doubt he will.  Someone in the know needs to let the list know how much it goes for when it sells... maybe we can start a betting pool

Its a lot better airplane than the SR20....compare the stats. It is much closer to the SR22 which is a lot more cash than that. I doubt very much I would sell mine for any less, there just aren't any better options for the money.

I’ll bet there’s $80-$90,000 worth of work just in the panel. And if the builder was Paul Irlbeck, and I think it was, you couldn’t have a better  builder. That man knows what he’s doing.

Well, if you can buy an airplane that's better than an SR20 for less money than one, I think it might be a good deal in many ways.  I suspect many (most?) of us on the list are struggling to pay for projects we're building ourselves for a lot less money than this.  I know I'm wondering whether I'll be able to do the things I want to do firewall forward, just due to cost.  For us, that number seems like a lot of money.

But someone who would buy a new SR20 might find this a very attractive alternative.  The RV-10 compares very favorably to the Cirrus, and this is a beautiful airplane with an impressive panel -- everything you might want in an airplane.  And asking price isn't always selling price -- there's room to negotiate.

That's a good point, but you are only considering acquisition cost, and failing to consider cost of ownership.  The SR20's price 5 years down the road is somewhat predictable.  What's this RV-10 going to be worth 5 years from now?  It's a big risk for a business minded individual, which I assume most people with money to purchase a new cirrus are.

I've thought about this one too. Yes, performance wise we're
probably closer to the SR22, but realistically, even a beautifully
crafted homebuilt will probably still not be on par with a
factory Cirrus from a luxury and interior point of view. So
they'll never compete head to head on price. Honestly, the
RV-10 is a poor man's cirrus. Those who are in the market for
an SR-22 probably wouldn't want a -10. Those looking for a
182 might just give a testicle or two for a 10.

Ya, I was giggling at the new asking price listed for the 182 at OSH.
Something like $355k. Makes me want to pull up along side one and ask
if they want to race and they could have their choice of climb, cruise,
or useful load. Smile

I can understand the $355K for a C182...what I can understand is anyone
paying it.
