I think that my problem might be my voltage regulator. Without the engine running my voltage is 12.4 with the engine running it is around 19 V. For a HKS Volt reg is 225.00 I believe that the last time I replaced my Volt reg it was a Yamaha one for about 25.00. Anyone remember anything about the regulators for HKS?

Larry,
It’s been a while since I sold the HKS, but I seem to remember it worked just like most stator engines out there. This is the regulator I will use if/when my 912 regulator dies, from Amazon. I found it was the best replacement through the Rotax list a while back.

DB Electrical AKH6004 Voltage Regulator for around $25
Most AC to DC regulators for 12v work the same way, the nice thing about this one is it has a “charge” warning light output on it like the Rotax ones do, although I had a volt meter read out when I had the HKS.

Hope this helps, I don’t post often, so I will take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy your videos.

I received my new Voltage regulator in the mail yesterday, and installed it this morning. My problem is solved fully with the exception of getting the right setting on my EIS for the tack, and changing the little red warning light. Apparently the spike in voltage blew it out.

An HKS regulator was in the range of 225.00 my replacement was $100.00 from www.rareelectrical.com . The last one managed 4 years of use. Don't know whether that's good or bad, but since I am coming up on 76 it should last me till I am not fit to fly any more. However just in case, I am going to put my receipt in a safe place. In 2016 the cost was $44.00. Things have gone up a bit.
