Good morning all-
Fishing for some tips & advice, this time on changing the p/n GUR-7I fuel quantity transmitter, out in the main fuel tanks. Specifically, I plan to soon install a new one in my left-hand, standard main tank w/ 2 new gaskets.
Background: troubleshooting all the wiring shows that the inop L/H red "fuel low" light in both cockpits is owing to the transmitter unit; all wiring, bulbs, sockets test healthy happy & continuous.
Has anyone changed out the fuel qty unit, and has tricks & tips to share?
Traps to avoid? Good or bad experiences?

Justin,
You may want to consider adding a JPI FS450 Fuel Flow instrument. Not
only does it provide excellent fuel flow information, especially with
airplane that has a mixture control, it also provides total fuel used,
fuel remaining and time to empty. at the current fuel flow. If
connected to your GPS, it will also provide fuel required to next
destination, fuel reserve when you get to your next destination and
miles per gallon (which you'll find most interesting based on your
mixture and power settings).

Shadin also makes an excellent, easy to use unit. I’ve had one in my Chang for 18 years!

Excellent advice on addition of a fuel computer. I have installed one on both airplanes I have owned and I believe the unit is perhaps one of the most important pieces of equipment add on's you can have.

Excellent info all, esp on the fuel flow transducer...
Budget crunch (at) moment is keeping my CJ stock, but will store that away for future.
Have used F/F instruments in other aircraft, and they can (literally) be lifesavers!
It's nice to have the time to be able to get to back-burner projects...

I still have the fuel tanks and the transmitters from when I changed out to bigger tanks. They were working fine when I put them on the shelf some 10 years ago if you're interested. I sell them both for $25.00 + shipping. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby
