Last year I upgraded the landing lights on my KIS4 from the AEROSUN 800 to the Baja Design S2Pro. The Baja Design S2Pro lights come with different light patterns but I couldn't find anybody that could tell me which was best for an aviation application. I decided to go with the SPOT light pattern which provides the best long range pattern thinking that for night landing it would be the best option. After a year of flying with them I realized they had an incredibly long range, I could see the runway markings from over 500ft but once on the ground the visibility while taxiing wasn't that good. There was an area in front of the airplane that was dark and ground markings were very hard to see, especially when having to turn.
Fast forward to last month when I decided to change from the SPOT pattern to the COMBO pattern. All it took was to change the lens which cost just over $15.00 per light. I just did some night flying after I made the change and found the COMBO pattern is overall a much better pattern. I can easily see the runway markings from 400ft but the ground visibility was significantly improved. The previous dark area in front of the airplane is well lit and I can see much better while taxiing.
It is kind of hard explaining this so I updated my webpage with pictures so you can see what I am talking about. Look in MAINTENANCE > UPGRADES > LANDING / RECOGNITION LIGHTS.
I hope this helps anybody debating on which light pattern to use in their airplane. Overall these S2 Pro lights are superb and I highly recommend them.

If I ever get my plane with the hours flown off so I can move it to my new home and hangar I might give them a try. A two and half hour drive to get to the current hangar is a real issue for some reason.
As a side note, I went up this week and took my new lithium battery charger expecting the batteries to be low after 10 months since last flight. Turned on the Dynon and checked battery level and found them to be 12.7 volts. That would have been more than enough for cranking. Topped off to 13.2 in about thirty minutes.

The best part of this upgrade is that the lights fit within the wing leading edge of our airplanes and create no RF interference. Something not many high quality LED lights do.
