Has anybody seen this voltage regulator connection issue? One of the yellow generator connectors has clearly got hot and is too close to its slot in the plug.
It's definitely melted, not vibration or mechanical abrasion and looks like it's simply too close to the edge of its slot in the plug.
How to avoid re-occurrence?
(Apologies for the first image - auto focus )
Many thanks in advance,

My first thought is a loose connection, leading to arcing.

Yes! Although mine wasn't as bad as that...
What was the cause and, more importantly, what was the fix to prevent recurrence?
Best,

Welp, the cause wasn’t a loose connection. This was on my RV-12, installed IAW original instructions. It occurred with less than a 100 hours TT. Van’s came up with a different installation and different regulator. I opted for it. So far, so good.

This happens when the connection is not 100% tight. Bad connection creates heat.

Glad you got it resolved Ken,
What was the different installation (and what different regulator, out of interest)?
Best,
Paul M

Hi Paul Looks like a high resistance connection, it turned to a mini toaster. Rotax supplied pretty poor fast-on connectors for some time. My 914 had the poor ones. Vans went to the Silent regulator for a while, Silent said it would not warranty their regulator unless you had phosphor bronze fast-ons. I went with a B&C AVC1 regulator, nice piece. They include phosphor bronze fast-ons or you can buy them separately in their $5 field kit: https://bandc.com/product/avc1-advanced-voltage-controller-homebuilt/#installation-kit Ron P.

Paul,Van’s moved the regulator from under the instrument panel on the co-pilot’s side to the left forward side of the firewall (engine side). They changed the regulator to a Silent and since have changed it again to a B&C. If and when my Silent fails, I will go to a B&C.
Regards,
KEN
