I've been aware of this offering by HF for years but
didn't pay much attention having a strong bias for the
more capable, well instrumented carbon pile load
tester. I was also skeptical of the "100A" load claim,
things just didn't 'look' that robust.
Tried to pick one up at HF a couple weeks ago. No joy.
Nearest store with stock was 150 miles away. Started
poking around on the 'net and discovered that this
device has many cousins and ancestors going back decades.
Nearly identical testers were offered under a constellation
of brands and prices . . . from $20 at HF to $160 at some
fru-fru autoparts stores. Found offerings on eBay for
used testers that had been around for a very long time
. . . with some individuals hoping to get too many
dollars for devices too often rode-hard-and-put-away-wet.
Even found some re-branded by Schumacher of well known
battery test and maintenance products.
Okay, went ahead and ordered one off some website.
It came in last week and I just had to get a quick
looksee on fabrication and performance. Don't have
time right now to cite all the details but know
that it IS INDEED and 100A load (measured 106A on
a well maintained 100Ah battery). Also opened it up
for a non-destructive teardown.
I'll be doing a Bob's Shop Notes on this product
and its clones. But for now, know that IT IS
a useful alternative to some more expensive (and
bulkier) test sets.
I would not discourage the notion to acquire one before
I can do the big data dump, At $20 from HF, it's a good value.
Bob . . .
Un impeachable logic: George Carlin asked, "If black boxes
survive crashes, why don't they make the whole airplane
out of that stuff?"

Interesting item which I found, made in China, but claims to measure capacity, CCA, internal resistance etc. according the standards
