I can print them up on the Prusa if people want... just need numbers required and work out costs...

I would like to purchase a set of two in white plastic, provided that they don't cost more than the original amount of around £30 IIRC, which the LAA was wanting. Failing that I'll repair mine again with Superglue, which works really well. Thanks.

Jonathan do you know what plastic they are made of? are they 3D printed pieces?

Sorry, but I know little to nothing about 3D printing, except that something looking like fishing line feeds the machine. Yes they're made of plastic.

Will be cheaper to go the LAA route... with postage from Aus would make it £40 pair, printed in PLA. Up to 250g parcel, so more pairs bulk would bring costs down probanly.
How did it break? Did the door fall down with shoot bolt protruding?

Yep, that's exactly how it broke and no doubt the same will happen again and again. The material thickness is too light. The LAA seems to have washed their hands of producing the items and handed it over to the Europa Club "for free". In reality a club member still has to purchase the STL 3D files for this mod, which I feel is a bit "off". Especially as the member also has the cost of the 3D printer and materials.

Hmm, washed their hands 🤔
Sounds like there will have to be another AD issued for a second piece added on top of the first one to protect it from damage!!
Can any designed piece be fitted or must it be LAA approved and supplied?
Unfamiliar with procedure...

As someone has already mentioned, it is permissible to whittle the item out of hardwood, but I don't have the skill set or inclination for that.

👍 thanks for the insight
Have you thought of making the piece out of layered ply or balsa wood? Or balsa with a 6mm top layer of ply?
3D print would need a thick core to prevent fracture.

I am a Europa Club Member and have just downloaded the STL files at no cost from the club website so I don’t understand your comment;

My friend has the 3D printer and I've forwarded the files to him. Like me, he discovered that parts of the files are greyed out and there's a purchase price displayed. So neither of us could open the files and I'll simply wait until someone offers shoot-bolt stops for sale. In the meantime Superglue and tape are holding things together.

Re: SM15833 as listed at:
http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/Airworthiness/Europa/247_Europa%20SM15833.pdf
and STL files located at:
https://www.theeuropaclub.org/building/stl-files/shoot-bolt-stops
Just to clarify on behalf of the Club, that the LAA have indeed donated the STL files to the Europa Club - to be offered to whoever wants to use them to print their own stops [at their own risk btw].
The specific use of 3D printed stops in plastic to satisfy the 'AD' is not mandated, and anyone can make/fashion their own alternative stops from any 'suitably resilient material' (which i personally take to mean wood or metal).
I'm not aware that any aspect of the STL files sourced from the Europa Club link below are preventing their use. Indeed this the first time i have heard of such an issue. Perhaps someone who has already used them successfully can comment if they came across the same issue and who they overcame it?

I’ve just built a small 3d printer and happy to print these for anyone not able to. I can do the in white ABS which is a bit better than PLA.

As I’m still setting up my home built 3d printer I thought I would print a set of the shoot-bolt stops out to see how they came out. The white ABS+ I have used is a little more grainy than PLA but can be sanded and painted plus should be much stronger. Hear some shots of the print and finished items. If anyone wants these to try, I’m happy to post FOC in the UK.

The fore-fairing has 31% fill as my LAA ones are hollow and one cracked. I have replaced this one with a self printed one but will need to see how they stand up.

Vince looks like the Extrusion Multiplier setting in your Slicer app is too high; try setting it between 8.5 and 9.5... the extrusion beads should be overlapping by about 5%-10%... Extruder temperature looks like it is also a tad too high.... Infill on the forward piece you can set fairly low at 15%, its not load or stress bearing part, will print a lot faster.
The LAA Aft piece is a thin Shell model; it has no interior thickness (i.e its not "watertight"), so printed as the stl is it could probably be crushed by hand and is not optimised for 3D printing only CNC machining. Not surprised at all to hear its breaking in the field. Could be wrong but appears that way...

No problem... i was once where you are now... watch some youtube videos on slicing and print tuning; keep a journal of settings changes and results... you'll get there... PETG is probably going to get better results once you get the hang of it all, and PLA can be rock solid and robust also.... don't buy budget filament, it will drive you insane with frustration.

I believe that I now have an alternate design approved by the LAA. The approved mod document is currently being updated accordingly. It is fixed mechanically and chemically, and will be provided with a drilling template to fix it from the rear with no exposed external holes.
Details to follow.
