Ron
On the front canopy. You have a choice. There exist a small hole on the inside of the cockpit near the rear of the canopy rail that allows you to remove the rollers. This is a royal pain in the butt. The other way is to remove the entire rail. It may sound like a bigger job but it isn't. Slide the front canopy back, remove the 4 or 5 rail bolts, pry the rail out. Do both sides. Slide the canopy forward and lift it out.
The back canopy is just held on by two stops.
But if you prefer, I can fly up to Hicks and give you a hand. Just say when. Weekends only.

Ron,

It was about a 40 hour job for me. No fun A-Tall. I used plastic tapes for sealer on the edges...wrong. Find thin synthetic rubber tape and use that. Getting everything in place first IS Everything. I used a drill with the edges "broke" for acyrilic and clecos to hold. "Relieving" the holes with a tapered stone prevents future cracking. Forget the rivets and use all screws. Since I'm never one to leave well enough alone, I made a composite rear canopy bow so I could trim the rear canopy to sit a little lower. This was indicated by previous tuft testing. Bad idea, One or two Knots vs much trouble.

Craig and0 Ron,
Just a note0 on hole size in plexi, they should be at least 100%0 oversize. If you drill them to just fit the fasteners rivets or0 screws) they will crack later when the plexi moves in hot and cold0 temps, even if you relieve the holes as Craig recommends (which I agree is0 a good practice) you must still oversize the holes.

About the0 rear canopies, I just got the first one piece rear canopies in and they look0 really great, they also take more than just a little of the hassle out of0 fitting the rear canopy glass.

Another0 point, the front slider has 6 bolts in it, on which the bearings ride. 0 They are in sets of two and are of three different part numbers, so be carefully0 not to mix them up.

The bearings0 are called out as GX26GB276 which are a "linaball" type bearings. I have0 found that the GX1026BG281-64, which is also a linaball bearing is very close to0 the same bearing. The -64 bearing is used in the CJ control0 surfaces.

Canopy glass0 replacement is not hard work, it is tedious and not for the faint hearted, Craig0 is correct a well done installation takes about 40 hours. 0

Always Yakin,
