Not necessarily. Cessna prohibits slips with flaps extended in the
Cessna 172 because the flaps interfere with airflow over the tail
surfaces making pitch control difficult. There is no such
prohibition in my Piper Arrow. I can put the flaps down and slip to
my heart's content. I can't remember if I tried to slip the Kitfox
with flaps extended.

Given the common use of flaperons for pitch trim in the pre-Model IV
'foxes, their application as traditional flaps may be less useful.
And, of course, the Model IV and later use a different flaperon mixer
that provides differential movement (aileron down travel is less than
up travel).

The Cessna 188, I've slipped many times with flap and never notice any loss of tail/elevator authority either, it is a low wing of course..

Ok, Mike. I will try to increase the maximum angle of my flaps to say,
15 degrees and I'll let you know. BTW, this evening, I flew with an
American from Austin, Texas. He has been flying since 1965 and owns now
a Citabria. It was a short flight because we were surrounded by Cb and
between thunder storms. But it was great and, needless to say, he flew
the Kitfox like a pro.

hey people i have the 3 blade ground adjustable prop,my pitch on each blade is good ,but i guess i dont understand how to correct the tracking, i can rotate each blade down,and scribe it on a table ,they are the same angle,but a little forward and back of each other.HELP

Hi All, I'm looking at buying a KF5 and would like to know what the usual empty weight is with a NSI 100hp engine. The plane has it's tail # but no cetified weight. Also, is the gross wt 1550 lbs? I've only seen a model 4 and would like to know if the baggage area is larger in the KF5. Also how do I find out what the CG range is? Thanks much, Layne

Is it already signed off and flying? Or not certified
yet and so no certified weight?

Most should weigh 870-950 empty. Gear type and
add-ons make the biggest difference.

If I remember correctly, the early -5's were 1400
gross? 1550 gross is standard for the later -5's, but
you can set your own gross as a builder.

My FAA inspector recommended I set my gross above
anything I would ever use. Then license and insure it
to that so you are never at risk for going over and
losing your license or insurance coverage. Politics!
Fly under the real gross and if you go a few pounds
over, it is not a violation. (Bad that we should fear
violations more than performance)

Yes the baggage area is larger for -5's and beyond.
Weight limit dictated by CG with 150 lbs tops.

The CG is in the builder's manual. Don't have mine
here, or I could pass it on.

Layne, my S5 with NSI engine and prop weighed0 in at 870. The CAP prop weighed about 23 lbs all by itself. I could0 have built it lighter, but wanted to have lots of goodies for cross0 country. If I were to do it over I probably could easily eliminate 300 lbs. The gross weight goes by serial number so perhaps somebody can give0 you the breakdown on that.
