This is my first message to the Kolb list. I have0 been lurking on this list for quite some time. I would like some info on the0 location of a Hot Box in a Firestar11. Also, battery location so that I can send0 the information to Hot Box. For my harness. I am looking for the dimensions for0 a motor base plate for a 503 or to purchase one if anyone has one. Is it better0 to ground to the battery or to the aircraft frame? Do I need to do a weight and0 balance before installing the battery? Hope this message makes it to the list.
Thanks for all the good reads and0 ideas.

PS. To John Hauck tried to hook up with you at0 Oshkosh to pick your brain and introduce you to a friend, I was the guy on the0 black motorcycle that waved at you Wed evening.

Here is a link to some installed pictures of the battery and hotbox in a
FSII.
http://www.bcchapel.org/pages/0003/FSII%20Hot%20Box.html
Ground the battery to the airframe, and ground the engine to the airframe.
If you put the battery where we have ours, or anywhere close to the rear
seat, it will work out ok because it will be close to the cg.

Here's some pictures,

I had to bend the cross tube "up" a little for clearance...I used a
bottle jack...

Although I'd rather have it in the nose of the plane
( I'm carrying 16 lbs of dead weight up there )

A Man could eat off of any part in your plane, it's so clean. And talk about workmanship, Outa this world. I'll be sending my Firestar in a box here in the next several weeks for you to make purty like yours. Anal, man absolutely anal! And, thats a good thing.

Hey Ralph,
You were talkin about eating food off my plane before too...

Are you always hungry ???

Everything is still pretty "new" and it's in a hanger....Although , I've flown

it in the rain a couple of times, maybe that's the secret...
.
.
.

I got some messages about other people putting their battery

in the nose, sounds like a universal problem....( or solution )

Sounds like your finally having a great time with yer Firestar....

also sounds like you need a GPS , I like my Airmap 100....

it was CHEAP and it got me from Mpls to Baraboo WI ( by Madison )

I also had my Charts , but when I needed to deviate from my course,

it was simple with the features it has...
.
.
"I" can see your house from up here too !
.
.
Gotta Fly...

Mike,

"also sounds like you need a GPS ,"
The GPS that I have is a Garmin E-Map. An old system that works well with chips and Map Source programs. It has a database with the "Roads and Recreation" software. It allows me to download my trps, upload trips, leave crumbs and display (on the computer Map Source program) altitude, speed (ground) distance, etc. Pretty amazing for what it is. And, It has all the existing airfields shown, including many private backyard sites.

see picture's below. these are from todays flights for 1-3/4 hours. Really great till them thermals came along.

Ohio Ralph

My Titan (and all Titans) had the battery in the nose and was still a bit tail heavy. Mine required a 180 lb pilot to get the CG inside the required range. Lighter Titan pilots add weight to the nose even with the battery.

With the proper sized cables running to the starter I never had a problem starting in the cold Buffalo winters.

Speaking of GPS, I just upgraded to the Airmap 2000C and have an Airmap 100 for sale. If anyone is interested, contact me directly at jtriddle_at_adelphia.net replace the "_at_" with the ampersand. I have the RAM cradle and two types RAM mounts plus the 12v cig. lighter power adapter.

Is that Airmap 2000C amazing or what? I've only been able to use it in my
truck so far but if I do a quick left and right turn in my lane going down
the road it shows up instantly on screen just as if I did a wing wag.(or
what ever you call it)
