My 912 oil pressure is fine on start up then after 2-3 minutes drops to
under 2 bar and then after a further 3-4 minutes goes back up to normal and
behaves normally thereafter.
Any ideas?

Oil pressure senders have a poor reliability record with the Rotax. This
appears to be due to vibration. Some owners are on their third oil
sender after only a few hundred hours. As a result when my sender failed
I fitted a short length of hose between it and the crankcase. This
allows the sender to be mounted remotely reducing the effects of
vibration.

I have always been a bit puzzled by the Rotax instruction re: oil0 temperature.
The rpm are not supposed to exceed 2500 until oil temp reaches 50+. 0 Now this can take quite a while, even in summer and in winter a good 10 mins or0 so, using up a great amount of fuel (not so important to you guys across the0 pond with the cheap stuff).
In addition my voltage reg - and I have tried a couple - will generally not0 cut in until revs exceed about 3000 initially, so the battery is taking the0 whole load and in winter can get so run down, especially if a start up follows a0 longish period of nil usage, that the excitement of the regulator does not take0 place and no charge results, even with high revs.
This is not always the case but frequent enough to pose some0 questions.
Any answers out there please?

Will,
If your oil level was very low, the pump might be sucking air while cold oil
slowly drains from the places it pumps to. After it warms and loses
viscosity, it returns to the pump more quickly, raising the pressure again.
Just a thought.

Thanks good thought - however I always turn prop by hand and then check the
oil which is right at the top of the old style dipstick that i have.
My thoughts are that it is either something to do with the change in
vicosity as the oil heats up or the sensor. The mchanic here sayd that it
might also be the regulator sticking and then unsticking as the oil warms.
