Roger,

That's how it works. It's the Experimental Model BC700 ($395). You will
need a spacer from B&C so the filter will clear the motor mount. It's
either the 1.4" or 2.5" spacer. I'll look and see which one you will need
but the info should be in the archives or B&C will know. Sorry for the
short term memory loss - its hell getting old.

Thank you, Mark. I looked at Scott's pics. Looks like the filter is turned
90 degrees by the adapter and is butt high. So by punching a hole in the
top (butt) of the filter, the oil drains back into the engine with nothing
left after about 20 minutes. This looks like a mess saving way to change
the oil filter. What specific adapter did you order from B&C for your
IO-540? I looked at their website and they have several.

Thanks again,

Roger

Roger,

One more thought. If you are going with the 90 degree adapter install it
before you mount your engine. One of the four bolts holding the factory one
on is a stud that has to be taken out. It's much easier to remove with more
working room. My engine was on the plane and it took some doing to get the
stud out.

Just a note that you can also buy the adopter made by ECI for about
1/2 the price of B&C. A source for ECI adopter is www.overhaul.com.

The correct spacer for the B&C unit is 1.4".

Also, if you are going to use the 20 amp B&C back up alternator you will
require an angled adapter for the back up alternator.
