I've just recieved my plane from the paint shop and put every thing
togeather and am just about ready for first run ups. I've lined up all
flying surfaces
and found that the flaps (both sides) are lower than the alerons about 3/8".
The flap rod (tri gear with electric flaps) is up against the baggage bay
inside.
As far as I can see there is no adjustment I can make to anything to bring
flaps up. My question is has anyone else had this problem and is it going to

be a problem. I don't think so but will wait to hear for some of you others.

This is a fairly common problem. The question is are the flaps low or are the ailerons high. You should be able to get an idea of which by using your wing template. It is also worth looking to see how much gap is between the flap leading edge and the wing closeout. Others who have had the problem may be able to suggest what they did.

The problem is tha template discribed in the plans is not accurate.
Looking at the CAD coordinates of the section. the trailing edge should
be reflexed up slightly,not apparent on the plans template. This will
reduce cruise drag slightly. (don't aske me how much :-[ but every
little helps.
IMHO the ailerons should also be up a little, which will improve control
harmony and give a bit more washout at the tips.
I no longer have access to the section, my CAD program is buried in an
old PC which doesn't work any more.

Thanks for the answers. The alerons are spot on and both flaps are approx
1/4"-3/8" low on both sides. Both the same.
The flaps match up with the training edges and the alerons the same. They
just don't match up to each other. When I bought my kit from a fellow in
California, he had already installed the cockpit module so I'm not sure if
he had moved the module
back a slight amount or not. As the electric motor runs the flap bar up it
has a hard stop on the back of the module.

Al, not likely that the CM is set back, as it must be in contact with
the firewall. More likely, the flap pins are positioned improperly.
The only way I can see to remedy the problem would be to relocate them
and that will be no small task. Good luck and let us know how it turns
out...

I doubt the module would be too far back. What I think is more likely
is that when it was installed, the rear of the module was not strapped
to that part of the module forward of the fuel tank. This procedure is
explained in the manual but was really a bit hairy fairy because the
points from which the measurements had to be taken were hard to
determine precisely.

If indeed your flaps should and could be retracted further in their own
right, I would attack the problem by cutting away that part of the
module where the flap cross tube hits to allow more movement. This in
turn would mean you would have to fabricate a new part to cover the slot
such that it forms a recess for the flap cross tube. Whether or not
this is structural I don't know but I think it could be made strong
enough especially if you were to use carbon fibre cloth.

Just my thoughts.

We had exactly the same problem with our flaps. We found that the
problem lay with the position of the flap hinges bolted to the wing. We
had to elongate the holes in the flap hinges to enable the flap to fully
retract against the wing. Once we had done this the flaps came up that
extra 3/8". We had to replace the flap hinges and r edrill the holes in
the correct place.
We were advised that it was not acceptable to leave it as it was.
