I’ve noticed that my sweat is causing white spots in the metal surface that cannot be removed with lacquer thinner after the sweat have been left for a while. In some cases these white spots have develop into some type of white corrosion (filiform) that I have removed with scoth-brite.

I’ve searched the archives and found that Kevin Bonds had the same problem back in 2004 but at that time, no definite answer was given. (Kevin, how did you solve this?)

Is this common? Should I be concerned?

I found this in the archives. I think it’s Kevin… protecting his work from sweat.

So I’m not the only one heh? I have resorted to cleaning most things with Alumiprep 33 just before spraying or riveting together. I also have had a moisture problem, in my basement shop, which has contributed. Most of my aluminum, that has not been cleaned, has a haze on it until I clean it. I suspect you have a humidity problem as well. Your sweat contains salt, and when it is humid you have moisture and salt. Sound like a bad combination? The only reason more people don’t complain of this is that they don’t live in Nashville, Tennessee like me.

Just remember that it's your friends that kid you.
A: Because they can. and
B: Because they care.
They wouldn't spend the time or energy ribbing you if they didn't. KABONG Do Not Archive.

John,

Thanks for clarifying that! Kevin – thanks for being a good sport. The world is full of “friends” I haven’t met.

I live in Miami, it may explain the humidity problem.

Women often fail to appreciate the finer qualities that attach to nerdiness. Let her run off with a bad boy and see how long that lasts.
