I found a crack in my front engine case below #2  cylinder on my Huosai engine. It explained my windscreen oil without apparent  oil on my prop. 

 I am looking for another chinese engine if anybody  has one for sale. I am also considering an M14 engine if the conversion cost is  not prohibitive. Any ideas?

Jim - after 2 months of trial & error, we also discovered a crack in our front engine case below #2.  The saga started with growing amounts of oil in the front cowl area, on the gills and prop.  Then the oil film began to show on the windscreen.  Unable to locate the source, we were enroute to the shop when #7 worked very loose and began streaming oil, luckily only 4 nm from the airport.

  

 Thinking we had the culprit, it was repaired and test flown.  The leak continued so we replaced the oil pump, and checked compression thinking the case was being pressurized and blowing out the upper nose case vent.  Still no luck as the leak continued.  Closer examination showed #2 was now slightly loose and upon removing the cylinder, the crack was discovered, starting at the base of one of the studs.

  

 To our knowledge, this engine has never been over heated, suffered a sudden stoppage or any other abnormal stress, so....any insight out there on the list?  Is 2 just an unlucky number in China, did the Chinese purposely stress the cases near #2, knowing someday we would all need new engines, but at a drastically inflated prices or what?

 Never have heard of anyone with the Problem like this, it must  have some time in it's history had a bad Hydralic lock or over heated at some  point in it;s life, very strange it took so long to show up, the cases are made  of magnezium and It could be a number of things, this may be an Old 4th overhaul  also, who Knows for sure, but lucky it didnot turn into a forced landing some  place.

  

 Let me know what else you find, it may be a good idea to look  alot closer at these Engines.

My engine is 650 since chinese remanufacture and runs cold since I have a  spinner and no gills. No known hydraulic but I have caught 3 in 3 years after  sitting for long periods.
