Like the proverbial painter, I've gotten myself into a corner and wondered if anyone has a solution short of drilling all the rivets out and starting over correctly.
If you look at the attached picture, you can see where my problem is. I can't get the two holes in the 7F12-4 Gusset riveted. The problem is caused by the 15 degree angle in the 7F5-2SP Side Channel. I should have set these two rivets in the Gusset and tubes before I set it in place, but I didn't There's not enough room for my manual or air powered rivet guns to set the rivet flush. I tried grinding off the side of the nose on the rivet gun, but still can't get the head to set flush.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I bought a cheap HF rivet gun with a swivel head thinking I might be able to wiggle around and get it to work.... Alas, all my wiggling has been for naught.

Hi Tommy,
Try grinding the dimpled face of your nose piece at a 15 degree angle and
then redimple it, or you can accomplish the same thing by making a
separate angled and dimpled attachment to slip over the rivet stem before
you pull it. You can then angle the riveter into the corner while the
crooked nose piece gives you a flush set on the rivet. The rivet stem will
be pulled at an angle but you'll get a straight set on the rivet.

Very neat Dino. I wish I had the equipment to turn that drawing into a steel nose piece. My file and hand drill made one, but not anything that looked as good as your drawing.

Me too. I'm lusting after a mill and a lathe, which I would convert
myself to CNC. But I don't have the space in the garage, and I can't
allow myself to pick up another hobby until after the plane is done.
So I'll be making one with my drill press and disc grinder.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Hey guys, there's an easier way than having to work up a nosepiece to fit your job. Several years ago somebody on this list came up with an easy way: As I recall, it went like this: 1: Using the appropriate size bit, drill a hole lengthwise into a chunk of bolt or round bar. 2: Cut the bolt or bar to an appropriate length, on a slant that will give you room for the riveter. Cup the slanted end as with the nosepiece. 3: Slip the mandrel through your "new nosepiece", and into the riveter, putting a slight bend in the mandrel. You then get a pull perpendicular to the work, with your riveter on a slant. I had several rivets that I needed to do this, and it worked.

Isn't that a description of what Dino so nicely drew, or am I missing something?
