Members,
I would like to hear from any of you guys/gals who are running a Jabiru 3300 engine on your aircraft. I have heard there is no requirement for a manual mixture control and would like to know if this is true and if so, how does the system work when changing altitude.

It is correct and it is becuase the engine has a pressure compnesating carb.

Gig,
Could you explain how the system works. I have never heard of a
pressure compensating carb. Does this mean the carb has a built in sensor
that works off of barometric pressure like an altimeter to provide the
correct mixture at whatever altitude one is flying?

The Bing carburetor on the Jabiru 3300 is a "self compensating" model which supposedly does as good a job of adjusting mixture for chnges in altitude as most pilots could/would do inflight with a manual mixture control. There is an ongoing debate as to whether it really does a good enough job, whether good enough is good enough, and whether a pilot can do it better with a manual mixture control.
For the mechanical details of how it works, email Pete Krotje at Jabiru USA. The email address is
info(at)usjabiru.com
Pete is good about responding to customers and potential customers and can do a better job of explaining how the ambient pressure change adjusts the mixture.
Coincidentally the Rotax 912S uses two Bing self compensating carbs.
Hope that helps,

PS: How's the learning progressing with the Lowrance 2000C?
