You know, sometimes I am just baffled by the reactions that even the most innocent and well meant post inspire here on the "KOLB" list.
Ralph contributes tons to this list and inspires many interesting Kolb related threads that are discussed by many.
Now here is a guy trying to inject a little aviation related humor into what can sometimes become a wee bit boring (however pertinent) and is slapped down by two self appointed "HALL MONITORS" reading him the "RULES" like he doesn't already know them.
You two stuffy guys need to acquire a little tolerance and compassion for your fellow aviators and stop pretending that you are the voice of the Kolb list enforcement team.

Hi Chris,
I'm baffled that you think the security of an airliner is funny. Could you please explain where you find the humor in airline pilots having to carry firearms? I fly the "friendly skys" two or three times a month and I don't find it funny at all. I'm sorry but after 9/11 I just can't lighten up about air travel. The airline pilots shouldn't be telling the passengers whether they are packing or not. That would be like telling the passengers whether there is or not an air marshal on board and where he is seating.
To the rest on the list I'm sorry this is not Kolb related but Chris said it is OK to break the rules. I sure wouldn't want to be called intolerant,
self righteous SOB or without compassion so to hell with the Kolb list Usage Guidelines.

WILLNot to extend discussions, but the post about flight crews carrying was done by rank amateurs, which to me at least was obvious. They say a .22 will penetrate body armor??? -- they don't know what they're talking about! Regard them as little boys playing big boys. Ignore! Let's waste no more time or Kolb-list space on this.
FYI I've carried sidearms most of my life, have an FFL and feel better when carrying. But I certainly don't
try to or want to carry arms aboard an airliner.
However, I would feel better if the flight crew did. ASSUMING they're properly trained.
How do you think the 911 fiascos would have ended if they'd been armed?
Sorry not more Kolb-related,.

Hi Will,
You can't honestly believe that I find the airline security mess and the threat to American lives funny ........... can you?
Be fair and realistic. Should pilots have to be armed? No.
Should armed pilots announce it? I think yes.
Should we as citizens / victims stick our heads in the sand and never try to lighten our lives again because of past tragedy?
I don't think so. The audio clip was a ruse, not an actual cockpit recording (didn't really happen).
And I NEVER said that it was ok to break the rules. I did mean however that we should not take a superior attitude over another member. It's about respect as much as anything. If either of the two guys that publicly chastised Ralph disagreed with his post, they could have addressed their concerns to him "off list". Besides, when things get to far "off center" here on the list, Matt will put us all back on track. It is after all his site and his rules, if he doesn't mind us occasionally supplying a little humor then it's ok.
AND FOR THE RECORD .... I DID NOT CALL YOU A
" self righteous sob".
Kolbs are aircraft, therefore any thing aircraft related, no matter how remote is applicable to the "rules".
