A friend of mine is looking for a basket case to rebuild. He is an incredible mechanic with some serious restoration skills (he has done two award winning airplanes and is working on what will surely be his third)
Anyone have any leads on a 50, 54, or 55???
NOT FLYING!!!!

some guy in Tx bought if from auction, mysteriously came up and fixed the rudder and elevator, canopy and prop disapeared, then new tires and a tail wheel showed up, then metal plates over the holes in wings and elevator appeared and I heard it took off from the airport on Thurs while I was at work, couldn't believe it.

Smash,
Would you have felt comfortable flying her/he after what it went through? Have you replace it yet?

Me personally, no way in hell would I have flown that plane, but after this guy doctored it up at bit, it looked flyable, but with the holes patched with a sheet of metal and like four big spikes sticking out of it??? Never seen that before, maybe that is a temp fix to holes in wings. Anyway yeah, I bought Dave Hermance's 55 in late July. (Formerly called Olga, now Ivan) Love it and now HE is N572ST ( my personalized N #) Ivan and I are in love

Glad you are flying again. When are you slated for ACSC. That has to be on your next staff tour agenda for a young Major.
My 50 is down for new fuel hoses that were supposed to be new from Shackety. The fuel line from the sphere to the carb shed two 7mm fragments that FOD'd the finger screen in the fuel inlet to the carb. That starved the engine at 98% and 850mmHg on TO. Happened just as I was pulling the power back to 80% and 800 mmHg at about 50 feet off the runway. The next step for me was to raise the gear. I did not. The prop wound down and I dead sticked it back on the runway. Not damage to the plane. Thank goodness the plane like to go flying in about 200 ft TO Roll. That left 2800 ft to Land and roll out on!
So not Carl and Jill Hayes get to repace my lines firewall forward. Piece of mind is everything. That is why it's called flying and the cardinal rule in all aviation is " fly the airplane first." Can say that having flown gliders in previous life helped also.
Anyway, fly safe. Let us know when you get tapped for ACSC. We'll find a place on the field for Ivan.
