Especially for builders, who has GSC's 3-blade wood propeller on your CH701
with R912 or R912S.
Could you get answer for few question:
- Diameter of your propeller 68", 72"....
- Engine type (912, 912S, 914 other...)
- Blade angle (if flying or tested or....)
- Cruising speed (if flying...)

Unfortunatly I had a gsc propellor on my ch701 with a 582.
There ar ADs on these propellors and if it has ever been out in the weather
I would change it. I had
a catastrophic blade failure which also took the top of the gearbox with
the second blade.
the prop was well within the ad time less than 200 hrs.
Landed heavily in a cane paddock and took a year to rebuild and re engine
with a 912.and cost plenty .
It would have much much cheaper to throw away the gsc propellor.
I suggest a composite bladed propellor not clamped wood, wood is subject to
weather and shrinkage and expansion etc

sorry for the bad report.

Graeme

This didn't sound good at all! Yes, this is a brand new one.
If this is a really true problem with this propeller, I will let
it stay on the wall as an ornament.

Any other owners?

5 years ago that same prop mounted on an S-10 #3 blade seperated. The The
aircraft was rounding to final alt 550 ft the fatal crash was 800 ft from
runway. FAA investigators still to this day cannot close this case, many of
us that were using this prop removed them and as you suggested became wall
mounted decorations. Having said this there are many who swear by them and
that's OK too but since it happen to one of our club members we think
differently. Cheer

There are warnings not to let the GSC sit out in the sun or fly it in
the rain. I sewed up a prop cover from some "sumbrella" fabric, and have
noticed no degradation in 1.5 years......

Listers,

A few additional comments about GSC props. I have the fiberglass inlaid
leading edges on my 3 blade GSC mounted on a Rotax 912UL (80 HP). I had been
warned not to fly it in the rain back when I started operating the prop (
nearly 10 years now). Got caught in a couple minor showers during the first
500 hours. I kept the airplane under a roof, with the blades covered with
some covers I got from the Kitfox folks. But the afternoon sun hit the
airplane every afternoon. I remember receiving info saying that GSC wanted
the prop back at their facility at 500 hours or 5 years. I stretched it out
to 9 years and 500 hours. The hub looked fine but the blades needed
refinished at least thats what I thought. When I removed the prop and
disassembled it for shipping I found the bolts that pass though the wood
blades at the inboard end were in sad shape but not ready to fail.

When the prop arrived at GSC, Rick called me and recommended new blades. He
said it wouldn't be economically viable to to redo the blades. I went with
that when he discounted the new blades in price. I've since reinstalled the
prop but plan to remove it at 500 hours (1000 A/C hours) at least to check
those bolts. The airplane is now in a hangar and I believe the blades will
hold up much better.

One other thing I discovered; I torqued the attach bolts originally in warm
weather. When it turned cold, I found a couple of the had loosened. I do a
regular torque check to prevent this from recurring.

To conclude, since the GSC prop came with the kit, I used it. It runs
smooth, doesn't weigh much and with care, should do the job. I'm sure there
are other great choices out there. If I were building from scratch or didn't
get the FWF Kit from ZAC I would look at several choices.

Hello Jari and group,

Here in our Club, in the hangar next door, there is a Falcon XP (canard) that originally came with a 503 (Rotax 2 cycle) and a GSC 3 blade, Later the engine was changed for a 582 for better performance in our altitude, with the same GSC propeller. The GSC flew the airplane for several years... The pilots flys a lot, even during the week days.

The propeller was a pusher and twice a year was repaired for the damage of little stones and dirt abrasion, barnished and balanced. Club self imposed rule for wooden props). worked OK until the engine was replaced by the actual 618 that came with an Ivo (I think).

The prop is now in the wall, but stil in good shape, (No serious damage during its life) Could work if needed.

I like wooden propellers, in my ultralights I carved my own. But they need some love and care (normal damage [quote][b]

Hmmmm... have to say, I like this prop, but it seems to be better
leave it for decoration purposes after 15hrs taxiing tests.
