Someone please tell me the trick to posting a message that does not end up scrambled with extra characters. I have posted several notes and each gets trashed. What am I doing wrong?

JR,
I found this message and three others that you have posted since August
to be quite readable with no extra characters. I don't see that you are
doing anything wrong in your postings. I do see messages with weird
characters and suspect the writer is composing the message using Word or
something similar. Stick with standard email programs and you should be
fine.

Also mine adds characters unless I choose "Plain Text" in my email. Since
Matt made changes, the system is more tolerant.

Your email program is probably sending HTML. Find the setting that tells it
to send plain text and see what happens. I use Outlook and that setting is
under the Format menu item.

Might be using Word for your e-mail editor. Word uses things like "smartie quotes" which regular html can't figure out. Question marks, apostrophes, quotation marks, colons, sem-colons.
As with everything else, it's Bill Gates' fault. (g)

The simplest thing is to send your email as plain text, rather than HTML, RTF,
or some other format.
