I can't resist. A group of Austrian and English officers (and their wives)
were celebrating the end of the war. An Austrian officer stood up to propose
a toast to the women present. Proud of his english he translated the German
toast "auf die Frauen!" into his less than than perfect understanding of
English. "On the women!" he cried, raising his glass. "Is that an order?"
responded the English officers in chorus.
I would like a viertel of good Wachauer wine for every embarrassing mistake
I have made in German. Language is a great leveller.
To justify this post... The Vienna Kitfox S5 Outback is again approaching
flight worthiness. Some may recall we managed some hops last autumn but what
we thought was a simple carburettor problem (rough running) turned out to be
serious engine problems. Almost 12 months later the new 912S is installed
and just needs all the bits connected and test flying will resume. Will keep
you posted.

Yes Bill, but it doesn't say why the acronym has the first letter, last.
So, for the benefit of Lynn, let's create a fictive story:
On the first of May 1968, Monsieur Jérôme Potdevin, approched the
"Commission Internationale des Poids et Mesures" with the following:
- "Oh là, là! Greenwich, merde alors! It iz cauled: Universel Taime
Coordinné! You mai caul it UTC! Voilà!"
To which, very politely, Lord Humbert Charles Chicklebroom, honorable
president of the said commission, answered:
- "I say, good show, old chap! UTC it will be! But, if you don't mind, we
will call it Coordinated Universal Time."
- "Mais oui!"
- "May we? ... of course you may, old chap!"
- ??
... ok, ok, I'll shut up now!
Cheers,
Michel
