Getting ready to replace the original Vans 500x5 main tires soon and looking for input on choice of next tire. Anyone have any strong feeling for or agains any other tire than Vans?

I used McCreary AirHawk 6-ply tires for 1000+ hours and grew to like them. Light & cheap. Not the thickest wall tire in the world. Not the most durable in terms of wear, but I was happy with their performance. On this page: http://www.rvproject.com/20051214.html you can see my tire & brake wear trends & stats.
I recently switched to Wilkerson RETREAD Goodyear Flight Custom II tires, upon recommendation from another RVator who said they are perfectly balanced and a good value. The value is there imho, but they are F'n A HEAVY compared to the AirHawks. Reportedly they were perfectly balanced...but they are not any better than the AirHawks (at least not on my airplane). They are wearing extremely well, and I suspect I'll get 25-50% more wear out of them than the AirHawks, BUT -- I'm switching back to the AirHawks after this set wears out.
I have no desire to lug around another 3-5 pounds of rubber. I'll take the cheapies. Not to be confused with the bottom of the line AeroTrainer or whatever...the AirHawk is a small step above those.
If I landed on unimproved strips on a regular basis, I'd probably prefer the heavier, thicker wall stuff. But I don't. I land on smooth tarmac 99.9% of the time.
I use Michelin AirStop tubes exclusively and swear by them. I check pressure every 100 hours or so and usually it hasn't changed but 2 psi.

Jerry ...
Re: the Goodyear Flight Custom III, have you noticed a more solid feel with these tires? Are there any differences with them that improve ground ops?
Thanks ...

How much bigger are the Flight Custom III's compared with the Airhawks? I was thinking about going FC III when my first set is worn out, but I'd like to build enough room into my wheelpants to take them.

I can't measure with wheelpant on, but they are bigger. The diameter is about 14" and I enlarged the opening a little.

They is definately a more solid feel. I do notice an improvement in ground ops, but the real treat is in landing. I like to wheel land I like how it handles with the FC III's.
