There appears to be very little traffic on this list.
Have you cleaned your carburator lately???
(Should be in the maintenance call outs........)

I joined this list after I ordered the 3300A Jabiru firewall forward
package as a replacement for my NSI turbo CAP Sabaru engine package
on my Kitfox Series 5. As best I can tell I have never received a
message posted by a member of this list. Am I the only member?
Receiving only a small portion of the emails I receive on the Kitfox
List is a relief, but to never receive one in over a month is another
thing.

Joe,
I will not receive my engine until late February as per their
acknowledgement. I was told when I ordered it that since they had
added hydraulic valve lifters to the engine, there had been a surge
in orders and a push out in delivery times. So no I have not cleaned
my carburetor. What is the story behind this? How do you like your
engine? How long have you had it? Is there anything else you can
tell me? What can you tell me about its performance? Where are you
located? I have had little owner feedback up until now and am
starved for information.
Many thanks,

I've been flying 633Z since April 2004.
I don't have the hydraulic lifters so every 50 hours I check the valve
clearance. I check the head bolt + prop bolt torque at the same time.
The engine runs smooth + strong. I've taken a bunch of fellow 601XL
builders + prospective builders along and they like it too.
I had a couple of instances of rough running on takeoff and one during
a climb at 2000 feet. I grounded the plane after that one and didn't
make the Zenith Cooperstown CA (I think) flyin. I removed and cleaned
the carburetor that weekend. The slide position is controlled by vacuum.
And the rubber bellows provides the resistance and return force.
When I moved the slide with my finger I noted rough spots near idle and
near full throttle - where the slide spends most of its time. I used
carburetor cleaner liberally to remove the dark deposits. And the slide
moved freely in all positions.
I've flown about 5 hours since then and the engine runs more smoothly at
idle and at cruise. The contamination built up slowly in the carburetor
and I didn't notice the change - except for the stumbles, and I didn't
like those a bit. I am confident that I found the problem. I ruled out
other causes.
Now that I know what the symptoms of carburetor buildup are I'll clean
the carburetor when I notice them or every annual - which ever comes
first. I took another look at my copy of the Jabiru maintenance manual
and I see no mention of this critical maintenance item.
I tried the yahoo groups - yuk. If no one posts on this group, I'll miss
out. But, I don't like the yahoo groups site.

Charlie,
We started the list as a USA Jabiru aircraft kits distributor, and with some 20 aircraft built under our supervision we are happy to provide both advice and comments about Jabiru aircraft where possible. It’s true there hasn’t been much activity but let’s hope more Jabiru owners / builder join and get involved!
For those seeking information about Jabiru engines for operation in non-Jabiru aircraft, please visit the Matronics Jabiru Engine List at http://forums.matronics.com/viewforum.php?f=29&sid=73595155690d945abfb1907109795baa
We’ll do our best on both lists to help where needed.

- 100LL
- new plugs
- new air cleaner
- new fuel filter
- carb heat on
- electric boost pump on
- recent oil change
- recent valve clearance check
- stumble during climb at ~2000'
- clean carburator
- noticable improvement in performance, during ~5 hours of flight
- smoother at idle
- smoother at cruise
- hopefully no more stumbles - time will tell
