Brian and I are still waiting delivery of our CJ6-A from VAM, should be a
week or so now just waiting for Transport Canada inspection. We are looking
for general advice regarding the purchase of flight suits and gloves from a
safety aspect and of course looks! What are the FAST requirements? Any
advice would be helpful including a reliable source.
Thanks,
Pete

You can go ahead and order brand new ones at $188US a pop at flightsuits.com. A better idea, go to ebay and get a used one at a fraction of the cost along with gloves a lower prices.
Used or new they have about the same level of protection.

Cheaper than Ebay, go to an Army/Navy surplus store or any thrift store near a military base and you are bound to find some there.

Holy Hunda Schiza! The dead horse arises!
Try www.flightsuits.com.
Hope this helps.
No intrepid Chang driver should be caught in cotton blue jeans and T
shirts. A light suit is a necessity at RPA fly-ins oter wise you are on you
own.

If you are really interested in safety, and want a flight suit, get a new one.
<![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]>
The nomex in flight suits is perishable. After so many washings, or wearings, the flame retardant is gone. Get one off of E-bay, or surplus, and you don’t know what you’ve got.
<![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]>
Spend the $99 at flight suits. Or, if you can tolerate looking “different”, the Sportsman’s Wearhouse had a huge stock of new surplus German AF flightsuits a while back. The sizes are limited, but from a safety aspect they work, and they were only about $40…

Actually, there are a couple of specific businesses dealing in used flight suits... The one I deal with and send my customers to is www.usedflightsuit.com. There are others if you want to do your own shopping, but we've found them to be priced right and the suits are in good shape. The "A" grade suits are about $60.
As for FAST requirements...the RPA has a list of required and recommended equipment. Check here for a list and many other useful FAST documents...

Good luck and welcome to what the T-28 guys at Desert Thunder III said is "the most professional and fun bunch of guys we've ever flown with"....

boy, i hate to bring this horse back to life... the flame-retardent qualities cannot be washed or worn out of Nomex. check out the Dupont websites on the matter. a $10 ebay suit is just fine as long as you don't mind the ink stains, rips and patch remnants.

Quote from the Dupont Nomex web pages -
http://www.dupont.com/nomex/divers_main.html The very last sentence on the
page says;
"And, this protection is long-lasting ń the exceptional flame-resistance
provided by NOMEX® cannot be washed out or worn away."

Count your blessings. It may be nice in Texas this time of year, 59 right now, but the summers are brutal. There is one good point about summers in Texas. You're at operating temperature before you even start your engine.
