Jack H.,

Was it you that tried the noise cancelling earbuds from Radio Shack? I
can't get mine to work on my Icom radio unless I hold it about half way in the
jack at the top of the radio?

What gives?

No that was me. I suspect that you are experiencing the mono source with
stereo earphone problem. You will need to get a mono to stereo adapter that
will get both earbuds talking.

Rick,

When I plug the Earbuds into the Icom the little green light on the radio
turns red and there is no sound at all unless I pull the plug out to just the
right point then you can hear. The plug in adapter from Icom has Four
different contacts on the male plug compared to three on a standard stereo plug.
Does your set work on one side when you plug it into your radio?
I get nothing from mine with the plug all the way in.

Your Icom appears to have a nonstandard plug. They must offer an adapter
that will get you to the standard three contact connector. I plug my earbuds
into my intercom and yes I had to buy a mono to stereo adapter to get both
earbuds to work.

Rick,
After looking at the headphone adapter I think I have figured out to set
up to hear in coming messages. Now I want to be able to transmit. I dont quite
have that one figured out. I see how to hook up a remote push to talk
switch, but I dont know where to start to find an external microphone that would
work over the noise of the rotax. Are you able to transmit with your set up? I
have the Icom IC-A5 handheld if that helps you any. I guess if all else fails
I could get one of those headsets like John H has

I use my earbuds under a set of aviation headsets and everything is
connected to my radio. My problem was my engine is so loud that I wanted
some extra noise dampening for my ears. I used to wear ear plugs but
couldn't hear the radio very well. With the earbuds I can hear and if cuts
the noise just enough.
