Is there a problem trailering a Kolb on an open flatbed with the wings resting on the trailer floor. I will have plenty of padding under the wings between the wings and floor. I will have the plane facing forward. I have already made steel chock blocks for the main gear. Are their any suggestions for hauling on an open bed trailer. I will be hauling it 1500 miles. Thanks for the help from ya'll, it may just be what keeps me from making another mistake.

I hauled my Firefly on an open trailer about 400 miles. We built a simple
stand, out of 2X4's, that the tailboom and wings rested on. Be sure to
support the tailboom. Do not let it ride on the tailwheel. If you're
trailering with the prop attached, be sure to secure it. When I got home I
noticed my 2-blade prop had cut about a 4" slit in the underside of each
wing from the wind moving it side to side. Pad your tailfeathers well, also.
We used some industrial sized/strength Saran wrap around the
cockpit/fuselage area to minimize wind in that area. Just wrap the whole
thing several times. It worked very well. Kept the water out, too as it
rained part of the way home. Hope this helps

Firebug, this is how I hauled mine for 700+ miles through rain, snow, ice,
fog, etc... Absolutely no damage...

DAVID, EXCELLENT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a welding business on my days off from the Fire Department. I can build any type of metal support I need. That is the ticket. Thanks a million for the idea. The last thing I want to do is damage the plane when bringing it home.

I just got back from the airport where I keep my enclosed trailer. I took pictures of it because I'm putting it up for sale. I now have a hanger to keep my Original Firestar in so I don't need the trailer/hanger.
If anyone is interested I can send pictures. I'm asking $2,500.

Hi Firebug,
We hauled my MkII 25 miles on a flatbed, 100 in an enclosed truck.
Made a cradle for the tail boom out of hay bales. Put the bales about 2/3
of the way down the boom. You do want to support the boom, lessens the
bending moment from, and damage to, the tailwheel assembly. Of course, tie
everything down well and check frequently.

How often do you fly?. I have my Firefly in the air now. I keep her at
Volks Field Just across the bay 12mi. north of you. You need to let me know
when you are going to be flying and I can run down there. I could not legally
fly in to Scholes could I? You have special privileges right?

Hi Ed,
Man, I haven't had time to fly since last summer. I'm gonna wait till Robert
gets comfortable in his MKIII and take a ride or two with him to get back in
the saddle.
You can fly into Scholes. Just call ahead to the tower and let them know. As
long as you have a radio, you should be fine. Personally, I would fly down
to the west end of the island and come up the beach. It's a looong
over-the-water approach if you come straight in from Volks.
BTW, I live right down the road from Volks, on Fairwood Rd. Lemme know when
you're gonna be there. I'd love to see your plane. How'd you get in there
anyway? I talked to Dave and he said there was a waiting list. Scholes is
free for me, but there's alot of traffic and it's windy.
