I'm about to install the True Track autopilot with altitude hold into my Europa MkI (monowheel) and wondering where best to install the pitch servo.
Anybody out there who did such an 2 achses a/p installation already?
(the roll servo installation seems to be reasonable simple)

Thanks,
Klaus

Salut Klaus
Comment vas-tu?

Salutations

Hi Klaus

I have not seen the True Track autopilot servo but assuming it is no bigger than the Navaid one there is no reason why you shouldn’t use the standard mod I produced for the Navaid servo installation. This uses one of the underseat lockers for the servo with a small hole through the bracing plywood to the torque tube tunnel. See the mod on the club website for details. If you need further assistance come back to me direct at nwcmc(at)tiscali.co.uk

My understanding is that your Europa club mod for the Navaid servo is for roll as opposed to pitch.

Presumably the altitude hold would require pitch input. It would be difficult to modify controls in the cockpit module to fit such a servo.

Probably much simpler to fit aft of the cockpit module but in any event a retrofit will be difficult.

If you haven't already looked, there are some ideas at
http://www.trutrakflightsystems.com/documents/LegacyPitchandRoll.pdf
although if the bolt shown were to loosen then the cyclical bending loads could lead to distress. Probably unlikely, but the consequences of failure here don't bear thinking about.

If you take a look at:
http://www.trioavionics.com/literature.htm

If you download the altitude hold document, you can see how Trio recommend doing it - I think that they say you can't just grab hold of the elevator push rod as a small proportion of the servos push could be turned into rotation by the rose joints with the consequence of a system that spends its life 'hunting'.
