Here is an interesting tidbit from Acmesport, a LTA mfg company and their request for a reassessment of the current Light Sport Aircraft; Lighter-Than-Air definition. Quick, and easy to read.
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:es8LhgpDU7EJ:www.acmesport.com/images/FAA%2520Request_%2520LS-LTA-1.doc+%22definition+of+maximum+takeoff+weight%22&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1
Before you insist that this is not important, realize that the ”maximum takeoff weight” definition is the same for ALL light-sport aircraft. This is a fact. The changes they request would not change the definition, just allow them ( LTA) to fly at an increased “maximum takeoff weight”
Take note of the dependence on the definition of “maximum takeoff weight” and how they determine it.
Remember the ‘ole (1) + (2) + (3) +(4) = “maximum takeoff weight” ??? Well, here it is in use as it should be.
Have a nice day...,
Steve p.s. The waiver has been received by the FAA, is on file, and open for public comment.
