Hi Matt,
I'm torn. One part of me feels that I'd like to send in my contribution for all the time and expense you put into this forum. The other part of me wants to send you my resignation from this list because of the continued jabber that shows up here like the one below. A couple weeks ago, you made the rules pretty clear to people that this babbling below doesn't belong here. Yet the same chatterboxes who love to send their personal conversations out for all of us to read don't seem to understand (or care). It appears to me that there is a very large number of us who want to read only Kitfox flying, building, and maintenance. Yet, over and over, a certain few use this as a chat room.
Maybe, just maybe, if you would respond immediately on the forum when messages are personal conversations like this, these chatterboxes will finally get the idea. I know it takes even more of your valuable time, but I'm guessing that I'm far from being the only one who is withholding donations because of this continued problem.
Thanks for reading.

Rex, since you sent it as an open letter, and therefore continued the "jabber" as you put it, I guess you are inviting comment. I attend meetings all the time and even the most organised meeting of people will include forays into areas not on the agenda, it happens that sometimes these are very productive.
In the case of the very small message you quoted it takes a second to download, scan and delete it without comment, even longer ones are dealt with in similar fashion quickly. If the thread provides entertainment or information to others why are you so keen to shut it down? It's an online community of many people, some of them are irritating from time to time. I find those who seek to control and stifle others the most irritating of all.
BTW Matt has my small contribution, Thanks Matt! And thanks Noel, sometimes I need a chuckle.

Rex, I totally agree with your sentiments. Recently, several people made their complaints known, I personally sent a letter to the list regarding this topic including quoting the list rules, and Matt has reminded us also. You're right, this is NOT A CHAT LIST for whatever one feels they want to throw out there. However, some people, for whatever reasons, just cannot seem to get the message (no pun) or perhaps they're choosing to ignore the rules intentionally. Being on this list is not a guarantee and it's not free. Please follow the rules!
Rex, I certainly hope you will reconsider your donation. Matt Dralle (Matronics owner) works very hard to provide us this forum and we all benefit greatly from it. Hopefully those who are ignoring the rules will reconsider what they're doing.
Best Regards,
Deke Morisse and Don Pearsall

PLEASE! If you modify the topic, modify the Subject. If you revert to
"chat", please modify the Subject to include "OFF TOPIC". That way people
who don't want to read "chat" can rapidly move past it.
Thank you,

Sorry you feel that way, Rex. I sent my contribution in already. Does
this give me the right to "jabber"? NO. But if you will look at the
posts that you are referring to, one poster was inquiring (I'm reading
between the lines here) as to was there a problem with the list, as he
hadn't gotten any list mail today. I responded that I had received a
couple (hopefully answering his question) and that maybe they were
FLYING...one of your key words. Another responded indirectly about
FLYING (noting that he was not, due to high winds). Yes, we both
included a few words that did NOT pertain to "Kitfox flying, building,
and maintenance"...shame on us...I for one am self-flagellating myself,
and will sit in a corner for the rest of the afternoon...I have 1.8 hrs
of flying my Kitfox today, and can now serve my penance.

I personally enjoy the "family" atmosphere of the list. In the years that
have past since I joined the list, I have found the delete button easy to
use in cases where I have no interest in the conversation posted. I have
never been bothered by off topic conversations. I enjoy the "jabber" and
know where to find the delete button.
Good job List Administrators! I really enjoy being one of the family.

I am new to the list but I sent in my contribution lastnight. As a webmaster for our local EAA, local RC club, and my own online business, I know the countless hours and hidden costs that these lists have. I am new to the experimental side of aircraft, but am not new to flying. I have found info on this list to be very helpfull and look forward to the digest everymorning.
For those of you who have issues with the chat, just subscribe to the list digest, you get one email a day and can scan thru it very quickly, then hit the delete button...
Thanks Matt for the great site. I think I will send in another contribution today.

Don't worry Noel, but it seems you have been chosen the "whipping boy " of the week by the self-proclaimed internet police.
Opps....I forgot to use a word like Kitfox, or, airplane in my post.

In my opinion this list is a community as well as a valuable source of inormation about Kitfox aircraft. Much of the entertaining "chat" is, at least for me, as powerful a reason for being on the list as the technical information. I learn about the personalities that fly these planes and when our fox is flying I will meet up with some of them. So let's not have a list that is purely technical. Let us have a list that is informative, funny and at times personal. I find it easy to skip the topics I don't need.

The prior poster DID use the words Flying, and the word Kitfox...therefor the post has been approved and is properly formatted.

Nothing self-proclaimed about it. Deke and Don are the list
administrators and they DO make the rules. The company Matt OWNS
hosts the list. The rest of us are guests and should behave
accordingly.

No whims are involved. The rules are in writing and have not changed
significantly in many years. Every few months we have a rash of
"please stay on topic" messages followed by an equally sizeable rash
of "it's easy to delete the off-topic ones" messages. Both camps
have valid points, of course, and we typically end up right where we
started.
