I am confused by the Mod61A instructions. If I understand it correctly,
the probe tube is meant to go through the spar, penetrating the
trailing and leading rib flanges. So, what exactly is the purpose of
the welding rod? Since this is a flexible wire, it is going to flop
around as you feed it in. Furthermore, the instruction says the wire
will put a mark into the leading edge of the rib flange. How is this
wire supposed to put a mark? Even if it did, its not going to be
visible anyway from outside the wing skin. Ami I the only one who found
this very confusing??
Thanks!

The welding wire is meant to ''find'' the position of the rib, and you
''eyeball'' down the exposed portion of the wire, as you would a snooker cue, and
extend that line onto the upper wing skin, to the L / E.
A powerfull light shining through the hole in the spar, [ with a blanket
over your head, onto the leading edge area, as a Victorian photographer would
have done] will also find you the rib position,,, ie the Redux bond line shows
up as a dark shadow.
Cheers,
Nev.
