This place I live in is a senior's mobile home park, mostly populated by Canadian snowbirds, and, of course, they're in full swing at this time of year. Very nice folks. Lots of visitors since I'm actually home for a weekend, and pretty hard to get anything done. Sure is fun, tho'.

In spite of all this, I finally got to Vamoose a while ago, and he fired right up with the fully charged battery. I'm VERY pleased to say that the stubborn oil leak at the redrive input shaft appears to be dry now. Unfortunately, it seems to have been the milder one, masking the real one. I ran the engine for 3 or 4 minutes this afternoon, and have at least a pint of oil on the driveway and all over the back of the engine and airplane. Not sure where it's coming from now.........just hafta let things cool off and then start dis-assembling. Ah, mercy, at least the redrive appears to be tight now. That's something, I guess. Yah, I know, Mike, but remember me waffling about it a year or 3 ago ??
There's certainly nothing feminine about this contraption, so I figured I'd
follow the Russian custom. Smile

Been noodling some on this for the last couple hours, and it just about
hasta be the rear main seal, or possibly (don't even like the thought) a
crack in the rear of the case. Previously, on engine start-up, I could see
the oil flood out of the input shaft seal, but that's dry now. On
recommendation of several on this List, I'm also going to re-install the
stock oil pressure springs. Kind of hate to, cause the local racers
strongly advocate them, but there's not all that many straws to grab at.

Lar

Those big displacement VWs need to breath if the pressure builds in the
crankcase oil will blow out everywhere. I had to add breathers to both valve
covers in addition to the standard breather to keep my tail feathers dry.

Also I use 20-50 oil don't use 90 that's weigh to thick.

Thanks, Rick. I did take that 90 weight suggestion with a grain of salt,
and 20/50 is what I'm currently using. I'll keep y'all posted.
