All, I received the Jan 2007 of Kitplanes and browsed through the "plans built planes". I noticed that Zenith had 3 different plans advertised,

CH701
CH601HD
CH601UL

Why do you supposed they didn't include the XL, 801, or 640?

Just curious,

Of course all of the Zenith aircraft a great but the three plans built aircraft are the only ones that have plans available for them, for scratch building. The others are kit only.

I don't have the copy in front of me right now but look at the specs for one of the 601's listed there. Looks like 801 specs to me. Little bit of a screw up on the magazines part.

There are going to be a lot of 601XL plans builders that are going to be really surprised by that statement.

The 601XL is most certainly avalable as planes only.

And to answer Dave's original question. It was most likely a failure to update their database from a previous year and it must have been one from a few years back.

It's hard to even find mention of the UL on Zenith's website anymore.

There is also at least 1 serious CH640 scratch builder that I know of. I don't know why it seemed so messed up in the kitplanes listing.

Hi,

The CH640 is also available for building from plan. In the Kit Plane Magazine, the CH640 is classified under AMD ZodiacCH640, page 40, and the cost of plan is 495$. We are actually 3 guys who builds this plane from plan. For more information you can contact me.

The information labeled "Zodiac CH601HD" is for the 801 unless there is a new 601 with 4 seats and a 2200# gross weight.

Hi,

The model 4 seat at gross weight of 2200 pound is the CH640. This model is derived from the certified model 2 place, IFR CH2000 also named Alarus.
