Serial Numbers

For 50 and 52, the first two digits of the serial number is the year of manufacture.

Remember however that all Yak-50s in Russia were ordered to be scraped in 1985 when the 55 was introduced.

So out of 307 made, less 8 to East Germany (DDI) and 7 to Bulgaria means 292 left in Russia.

The 65 or so that remain are either because local flying clubs in Russia did not scrap them, or pretended to, and then resurrected aircraft from mixed components.

Also remember that far more sets of wings were made than aircraft, since Russian Team aircraft were destined to be flown very hard, and then the wings changed at 45 hours. So often these serial numbers will not match fuselages.

Richard,
Speaking of extra wings, are there any of the unbent ones left out there?

My airplane has a bastard wing on it so that checks with what Richard has said. It is an '83 wing.
