Commander drivers;

My Christmas came early, it came today. Harry and Mike drove up from Titusville to Griffin, GA., and installed a set of freshly overhauled props on my 560E with Capt. Jimbob's STC. It has been a long frustrating two years as various problems arose for both Harry and myself. Harry had a little problem getting the engines started as it has sat for some time with a dead battery, but he showed up with a new battery and two props. Now to get the annual done and I should be airborne. NO PROP AD's again.

Merry Christmas
Don

Gil,

Right after the 2004 Flyin in Kansas City, I made the decision to do away with the Prop AD by changing out the props using jb's STC. At that time, with the purchase of the props in Florida, the shipping and overhauls to a good shop in Alabama and the shipping from there to me in Apple Valley, Ca. I spent about $ 13,000. Then, the shop in Florda purchased my old props for $4,000. Without a doubt, I feel I was treated fairly by everyone. Being one without any measurable mechanical aptitude, I must say that jb was the star of my prop change. NO REGRETS!!

Given the prop problems I’m having, would this be applicable to a 520 (probably)…..

This is probably of little use to the group, but. The AD on mine is 5 years or 500 hours. I considered eliminating the AD on my props(2 blade) on my 500A. It would cost $5,000./prop. The prop guy pointed out that, at 100 hours per year, I would be throwing money away.

Again, this is on an original 500A.

I paid $ 14K plus Capt. Jimbob's STC for mine, 0 hrs. with fresh overhaul. I was told the old props had no value, I wasn't

as fortunate in that respect as Bud.

I have apparently missed the entire jist of the Props thing.

I own a straight 560 - N206DX and had my three bladers overhauled (at) H&S in Pontiac Michigan over 5 years ago to get in on the 50% reduced parts prices from Hartzell before it expired. Though unintended, the airplane has been out of service all that time (divorce - but kept the Commander). I have less than an hour on the props but the props are now officially out of calendar.

I live on an airpark (Z98) in Zeeland Michigan - the plane has been tucked away in my hangar all that time. About 18 months ago I began an intensive effort to put the plane back into service. Both engines have been overhauled, gear boxes are solid - every system's been gone through, the discrepancy list is complete (including remanufactured gear trusses) except for the props in preparation for an annual....what's the skinny on the STC that upgrades the props and kills the AD????

I don't know much, but this is what I think I know...Hartzell makes brand new props for Commanders (very expensive), I found I have this option after talking to Hatzell today. The time/hours limitation between overhawls on props is a recommendation just like it is on motors, and of course unless you are a part 135 operator then u must adhear to the overhawls. There is also some type of Beech Queen Air prop conversion but I don't know anything about it.
Good luck to all with this prop AD hope this helps.

I ended up having to do this for N2760B - ~$25K each. She has the GO480-DIA (lower HP) engines and the Queen Air prop conversion wouldn't work. We looked 2yrs for a reconditioned set and there simply were none we could find that passed inspection.

High price and long lead time but glad it's done - no more AD's.

Think Hartzell mined the aluminum ore by hand for these - given cost and time it took! Smile
