Hello My name is Shawn... new to the list... figured this was the best place for quick Commander info and connections.

There's an Aero Commander 720 in Torrance, CA KTOA N138K

does anyone know anything about this particular airplane? history, previous owners maybe insight into it's condition. I do know it was last flown regualarly in 83-84 ferried in '86 and again in '96.

Any 720 or 680E owners out there with advice?
Thanks
SHAWN

Shawn,

Welcome. This is truly a wonderful site that is helpful, beneficial and enjoyable to the current and future Commander owners. I do not know this machine. However, the first critical thing you need to find out is if it can be ferried to a site where work can take place. That is, unless you have available hangar space at KTOA.
I purchased a 560E that had been sitting unmoved and exposed to the weather in Compton, Ca. for nine years. Getting it flyable so it could begin a six year restoration was an arduous and costly task.....worth evey minute and dollar spent.

Shawn,

If this is the airplane I think it is, the pressurization system has been
removed (among other things) and I think it would be a VERY long, VERY
expensive restoration project. There are a couple of people who have looked
at it and passed. For what it needs, you might want to save some money and
buy a new Eclipse or TBM 700 instead.

Thanks for the responses....
I have not looked at it yet... but I am aware that others have looked.. and have passed... I am aware of it's NTSB damage history and I also know about the camera door and the pressurization being removed.

Since it's a 720 I thought it would be an interesting and rewarding restoration project..pressurization or not. Just looking for background info.. other than the information I can get from the current owner. Complete aircraft with a Solid airframe is key... ferriable is second in line...

Sorry, I should have said "a NEWER Commander!" but I was just trying to
illustrate a (price) point.

Shawn,

Where are you located? I am about 10 miles from TOA. Also I have the repair manual of the 720 Alta Cruiser.

I will be in Florida for a week, if you want I can go have a “look see” week after next.

HI Moe>>
I was going to look at it sometime later in the month... the owner is out of town starting the 18th... I'm located in SanLuis Obispo, CA KSBP.

I'm pretty sure the plane is still parked at or near Rolling hills aviation in Torrance. It would be a big help to look at it with the help of a Commander efficiannato... or to just have someone stop by and gather intel for me. before I spend a day driving or flying down to see it. Lets keep in touch

If that's the one that was on Ebay amonth or so ago then I think Morris said he knew right much about it. It would be woth the expense to get his appraisal.
