Ok, I'm going to start building my wing spars. As most 701 builders know, the cap angles (7V2-2 & 3) are a non-standard thickness, special made for Zenith (from what I've heard). I have heard other people using 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/8" angle for the caps, instead of the .093" thick, which is what I want to do. I will be asking Zenith approval for this, but I was trying to figure out the new solid rivet length. Using 1.5 times the rivet diameter as the length protruding before riveting, I came up with 6.144 sixteenths of an inch for a rivet length. (AN-470-5-6.144) Does this mean I use AN-470-5-7, or is it close enough to stay with the AN-470-5-6? What have others done?
