To the best of my knowledge, the Floscan company does not manufacture, sell, or endorse
any of its turbine flow sensors for aviation use. They will disavow any such use in a
court of law. I have seen them say so in print. Check their web site - it is solely marine.
Try calling them and asking for an "aviation" sensor and see what happens!
Nonetheless Shadin and all the other aviation companies use Floscan sensors because they are
the best characterized and stable. An exception are the plastic sensors used in the Strato and Aveo
systems and they are prices at much less than half the Floscans. Caveat emptor. My guess is that
those aviation companies who use OEM floscans have signed liability agreements with the company.

I have been exchanging emails with Floscan this week discussing marine and aviation sensors. I have even been quoted a price for the 201A aviation sensor and they are ready and willing to supply me with a quantity shipped to the UK. No liability issues discussed or raised by Floscan.
The rub is, that for me to sell the 201A in the UK the price may not be acceptable if our governing body, the PFA, is happy to accept the marine models. The marine models use the same components and have slightly different specs in terms of K factor, flow range, and pressure drop. However, if the PFA's only concern is freedom from blockage, then there are models within the marine range that are suitable for the Rotax and Jabiru engines fitted to our aircraft.
Anyone care to comment?

Paul,
There are several of us on this side of the water that have the Electronics
International FP5/5L fuel flowmeter. These models use a FT60/90/180 flow
sensors. I don't know whether EIs sensors are rebadged Flowscan ones or not
but they seem to operate on the same principle. The important thing is that
they are FAA approved with an STC and some 55 different types on the
Approved Model List. More importantly for British Europa builders the FP5L
is approved by the PFA.
I have operated with the FP5L in my 914 Europa for over 4 years and have to
say it is the 'bees knees'. It has proven to be very accurate and fault
free. I have the Airmaster CS prop and I tend to set the power for cruise
using the fuel flow. It will also give the fuel at your destination if you
interface the unit to the GPS. I have this facility - this also works a
treat.

Flowscan transducers use infra red sensing of the rotor speed so are not
susceptible to magnetic interference. Some transducers use magnetic
sensing and can be affected by the Rotax alternator.
