Once businesses get large and become dominant in a market, after having wiped out competition, they increase their prices. I think we may be facing such a scenario. We as shoppers may be also to blame, I include myself as it is so easy for my fingers to do the walking in the ACS catalog, mainly for lots of small stuff – a few washers, a few bolts… and an occasional somewhat pricey item and then to simply place the order. Repeated behaviour of this sort is noticed by ACS’ management – they probably figure to price items based on what the market is willing to pay. It is a free economy after all. In their defence, I understand that the price of steel and aluminium has gone up tremendously in the last 18 months.
I suggest that we look at the ACS catalog organisation: hardware, electrical, airframe parts… and to propose on the list alternative sources.

If you are going to put a lawyer's N number on the fuel cap remember that almost everyone loves their own lawyer, it is the other lawyers that they hate.

Just to further this discussion, I work for Werner Ladder and Extrusions, we are one of the largest consumers of Aluminum, and the price of raw aluminum. due to Chinese influence on the markets has increased by more than 40% in the past year alone. Add in the additional costs of transportation and shipping and you can quickly realize why prices increase. If we do not deal with it on some items, we will not have a place left to shop in the US. I do not want to get philosophical, but Aircraft Spruce is a US company run by Americans, if we as consumers run them out of business by going to the penny cheaper alternatives, then we will deserve what we get when the only place to order from takes several weeks to show up.
Personally, I am in NWPA, can order before 3pm EST and it will ship the same day and I get it two days later. While many complain about customer service, I have received no less than stellar service form them, and have ordered several thousands of dollars worth of parts, not just the one washer here and there stuff.
Just remember the alternative when we complain, our Australian friends have to deal with 2-3 week lead times, and a huge shipping expense, so the next time you complain think what it would be like to try and speak Chinese to a customer service rep, and how will they track your part of the slow boat container...
Just rambling, and do not archive this dribble.
