Hi Gang
These are the skis I made for my Kolb. I made them out of old water skis that I had bought at a rummage sale for $10.00. I do not recommend making skis with metal bottoms because they will freeze to the ground.
I also put a stainless steel 3/8 inch rod down the middle of the bottom of the ski, this keeps it from sliding side ways. I made it so that the axel is the same height as the wheel. I find that flying with skis is easier than with wheels, except when the snow is too sticky. Sometimes when I am taking off I have to bounce the skis back onto the runway to knock the snow off of the top of the skis.

Like your idea of using rollers for a ramp, never thought of that... Would probably work for floats too...
