Hi,

   I have recently become the owner of a Tri Gear Europa and have already found the need for better flight deck ventilation.  I have been looking at various devices to solve this requirement and wondered what simple solutions others had found. 

   The side Europa NACA vents are effective at cooling my knees but not much good for anything else, and they have fallen apart with winter approaching. Psssst

   I have been looking at the 'ULTIMATE VENTILATOR' from Spruce.   Any thoughts???

Peter, I have one mounted in each side 'quarter panel' of my windshield, very effective and I only have good things to say about them . . . except the $94 each price perhaps.  Let me know if a pic would be useful.  Clive.

Pete - it may not be what you are looking for but  Ian Rickard's add on vent to the inside gets rid of the cold knee syndrome and  stops water weeping through the NACA vents. Using the eyeball vent inside it  also gives you a modicum or directionality.

 See my aircraft when you get home.

   You say you mounted them in each side quarter panel.  Do you mean in the perspex or the fibreglass. Ouch to the price.

   Yes I had the 'add on vent inside' on previous aircraft but that was quite a bit of work and the large eyeball vents are also expensive.

Pete, Tony,

Pics attached.  Fully adjustable ventilation from trickle to full hurricane and I've seen this arrangement clear windscreen 'fogging' in no time.  But the price . . .  Fortunately for me these were already fitted when I bought the a/c.  Haven't flown much in rain but I've never had any water leakage btw.  Clive

I used a 2 PC old mainboard fan 4 inches, they work perfectly coast >

intended for speeds above 120 knots'.

I have these Aircraft Spruce snapvents in my Europa classic in Kenya.  One in each side window (door).  Roughly level with my head, slightly down.  They work a treat, by adjusting you can get air flowing through the cabin leftways or right.  Also, being removable, you can take them out for oblique aerial photography (but only before flight, so don't want to fly in rain).  The only problem is that a determined person can remove them from outside, and access your door handle from inside, or fish around if he a long gibbon-like arm.  Can get pictures of them, but nowhere near the plane till December.  Best, Richard   Kenya Classic 168, reg 5Y-LRY

Yes, the brown tinted glass.  The snapvents are clear, but you wouldn't notice the difference when they are in.



By rotating them relative to the airflow, you can get one side to suck, the other to blow, hence movement of air through the cabin.

Richard...can you recall which model of the snapvent it is that you're using? 

I find it somewhat difficult to discern the differences between some of the models, though it does appear that only MODEL CC3251 allows for the vents to be closed and flush w/ the outside.

Wow...cutting those holes in installed door windows must have been a real come-to-jesus moment,

I have  2 of these vent I bought about 3 years ago but never fitted them, as the fear of breaking the plexi glass.



Are there any tips on cutting the 2" holes?

Yes, I simply used a 2" hole cutter, at slow speed. It may be a good idea to warm up the window first. I also installed these transparent ventilators from ACS in the corners of the windscreen (about $20 each). I don't see any need for anything else except air conditioning maybe.

Sorry, I don't have any good pictures, and the next time I am close to the Europa will be early December... sorry.  I am in Uganda on work right now, the plane is in the neighboring country of Kenya (my country of abode).  The only thing I can dig out on this computer is attached, pretty useless but you can see the position of the vents in both the near and opposite window.   have no idea what type they are, they were ordered by a friend for his Cessna 206, and were surplus.  I just bought them from him and stuck them in.  They are essential in these temperatures.
