There are several different units out there. Check Consumer Marine for
several types. I'm using the Floscan system made for marine use. Its
provides digital totalizer and large analog display for current fuel burn.
It gets it's data via a sending unit plumbed in series with the fuel line.
Mine is plumbed under the seat between the header tank and fuel pump. It's
been working fine for six years now and is dead-on accurate. I'd never have
another airplane without one because between the sight gauges and Floscan
there's never the slightest doubt about how much fuel reserve you have. I
set up cruise with info from the rpm, manifold pressure, and fuel burn which
gives me my best compromise performance/economy. Something amazing is that
there's a favorite breakfast run about 30 minutes from me and it "always"
takes 3.8 gals of gas round trip, regardless of condtions.
Good luck,
Deke
