Hi All,

I've just finished a new panel (aluminium) for my LongEz Diesel Mk2 and I have to decide what colour to paint it. I know it's not strictly an electrical decision, but in terms of it being the visual pinnacle of all the electrical work behind it, I want a colour that works ergonomically and aesthetically.

I'm leaning towards something other than black, but something not too colourful. Perhaps a charcoal blue?
Any advice?

Bill:

I anodized my aluminum panel a dark blue (plane is yellow & blue).  Then I had the labelling laser-etched. (A very small laser spot explodes the anodize off the surface exposing the bright aluminum underneath.)  Looks good and is super durable.

This is real cherry, it is an adhesive laminate. I put a few coats of varnish then any labeling on the panel with rub on letters then a couple of coats of varnish over the rub on's to seal them in. This is an early pictures but the cherry looks the same today.

Yes, Bill, sort of blue-grey is what we did in our Sportsman. This is powder coate done by our panel builder, John Starke in Georgia. But you should be able to find a two-part epoxy you can spray yourself if you like. We added the sub-panel holding the throttle, prop control and air/fuel ratio control later. Now, it too is powder coated to match. Since the cage in our Sportsman was factory powder-coated a blue-grey, we tried to match it and are very pleased with the way it turned out.
